I’m excited. During the summer holidays I will be running the Little Strawberries Summer Cookery School for Children from my village home in Stoke Sub Hamdon, which is just 25 minutes from Sherborne via the A303 or Yeovil. The school is designed for parents and little ones aged 0-10 years and will run 10.00 am to 12.30pm each Monday morning, from July 30th to September 3rd.
Why does this excite me so much? Well, if any of you read my article last month you’ll know how much I love working with children. It’s amazing! Every week at the cookery school we will be preparing something healthy, simple & tasty (a different recipe each week) and the kids will be eating what they’ve created for lunch. There will be good quality coffee, tea & cake available for parents, fruit on offer for children, the radio will be on and if it’s sunny we will prep outside. We will be gathering fresh produce, including new potatoes and tomatoes, from my allotment or garden so that the children can enjoy a full earth- to- plate experience in a lovely, natural setting.
The aim of this class is not only to provide a regular Monday cooking activity for you and your children over the summer holidays, whereby increasing their cooking skills and interest in food, but it’s also an opportunity for parents to natter, network and giggle. Not only this, but throughout the session I am available to answer any of your child health questions from a nutrition perspective and will give you as much of my expertise as I can. Essentially, you’ll have 2.5 hours of me at your disposal to discuss anything from weaning and childhood obesity to what to put in a packed lunch.
